Sudha Murty was born in 1950 in Shiggaon, a town in northern Karnataka. She earned an MTech degree in computer science and now leads the Infosys Foundation as its chairperson. Sudha Murty is a prolific writer who has published novels, technical books, travelogues, collections of short stories and non-fictional works, as well as four books for children. Her writing has been translated into all major Indian languages. In recognition of her literary achievements, she received the R.K. Narayan Award for Literature in 2006 and the Padma Shri in 2011. Through her experiences growing up, family life, and travels, Sudha Murty has encountered countless acts of courage that have touched the lives of others, and she shares them here with a clear-eyed, warm-hearted voice. In this book, she speaks candidly about her work in the devadasi community, her challenges as the only female student in engineering college, and
