Product Description
On 6 June, 1924 George Mallory donned an oxygen set and set off for the summit of Everest, accompanied by his partner Andrew Irvine, was last seen climbing through the clouds. Though they were glimpsed heading upwards, they vanished and their fate remains a mystery. In the years following, the disappearance of Mallory, nicknamed the 'Galahad' of Everest, elevated him to a heroic status in the eyes of the British public. He was hailed as a top climber of his generation, a skilled speaker, and an attractive figure to both men and women. However, there was more to Mallory than the public image. He was a risk taker, pushing himself and others to their limits. He was also a chaotic technophobe, known for losing and mishandling equipment. But who was the real Mallory and what drove him to pursue Everest? Through extensive research and analysis of diaries, letters, and contemporary documents, Fallen delves into the truth behind Mallory's final expedition and the man behind the myth.
