Product Description

Ranjit Hoskote is more than just a poet, translator, cultural theorist and curator. With eight collections of poetry under his belt, including Jonahwhale, Hunchprose and Icelight, his contributions to literature are immense. In addition, he has also been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Sahitya Akademi Translation Award and the S H Raza Award for Literature. His involvement with the Murty Classical Library of India, which is affiliated with Harvard University Press, further solidifies his impact. One of his most recent translations, I, Lalla: The Poems of Lal Ded, showcases the powerful poetry of a fourteenth-century mystic. Similarly, Hoskote's thoughtful selection of 150 couplets from Mir Taqi Mir's work, in The Homeland's an Ocean, exposes a more political side of the renowned Urdu poet. Mir, who lived through tumultuous times in Delhi, crafted exquisite poetry that continues to resonate with contemporary readers.
