Product Description

In her introduction, Marion Faber discusses Nietzsche's evolving philosophy, the use of aphorisms, and the structure of the work. The translation by Faber and Stephen Lehmann remains faithful to the original in both tone and meaning. Additionally, the work has sold approximately 1,500 copies each year and is accompanied by six other Nietzsche titles, including The Birth of Tragedy and A Neitzsche Reader. Friedrich Nietzsche was born in 1844 near Leipzig, the son of a Lutheran clergyman. He was appointed to the chair of classical philology at Basle University at the age of 24, where he stayed until his health forced him to retire in 1879. All of his literature, including Thus Spake Zarathustra, was written during this time. Here, he also developed his concept of the Superman. In 1889, Nietzsche became mentally unstable and remained so until his death in 1900. Professor Marion Faber of Swarthmore College
