George Orwell, born Eric Arthur Blair (1903-1950) in India, was a renowned author and journalist who holds a significant place in the literary world of the twentieth century. His acclaimed works include the political allegory Animal Farm (1945) and the dystopian masterpiece Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), which gained him international recognition. Other notable works by Orwell are Burmese Days, Down and Out in Paris and London, The Road to Wigan Pier, and Homage to Catalonia.
