Product Description

This collection's first story, 'Andolan', follows the narrator as she returns to the small town of Barbari. The town's transformation from reclaiming forest and wasteland to becoming zamindars is overshadowed by the influx of migrant laborers, creating a seemingly harmonious yet tense environment. As hidden conflicts erupt, the narrator becomes trapped in a town engulfed in deadly ethnic riots. Throughout the rest of the stories, migrants, women, children, and other vulnerable people are constantly faced with violence, both political and personal. In 'This is How We Lived', villagers turn a blind eye when a woman disappears and returns to the river to wash herself several times - a trade-off between them and the soldiers for the safety of the rest. The horror of ethnic violence is revealed in 'Sin and Retribution' when a young militant learns the true cost of taking another human life. Love takes on different forms in 'I Thought I Knew My Ma' and 'I Do
